    Scripture: “When He saw the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were weary and worn out, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest’” (Matthew 9:36-38, HCSB).

    Week of Prayer Missionaries:

    Day 1: Chuy and Maria Avila, Texas

    Chuy serves as a church planting missionary for the Southern Baptists of Texas staff in Laredo. His job is to develop and implement a church planting strategy for Laredo, one of the most unreached cities in Texas.

     

    Day 2: Doug and Brenda Lee, Nebraska

    Doug is the regional associational missionary and church planting strategist for Oregon Trail Baptist Association.

     

    Day 3: Paulette and Greg DeHart, Georgia

    As the Georgia state literacy missions consultant, Paulette helps begin and strengthen literacy missions ministries.

     

    Day 4: Tom and Marla Polak, Indiana

    Tom serves as director for Metro Baptist Center in Indianapolis. Through his ministry, he shares the love of Jesus Christ through meeting physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of hundreds of homeless individuals each month.

     

    Day 5: Jacques and Martine Avakian, Canada

    Jacques is National Advocate for Church Starting in Montreal, Canada. He works among the French Québécois, the largest unreached people group in North America.

     

    Day 6: Howard and Tina Burkhart, California

    Howard leads training for church planters in California. He is helping facilitate church starts among a variety of people groups.

    Day 7: Jim and Karen Turnbo, New Mexico

    Jim’s works focuses on starting new churches, building healthy churches, and developing leaders within the Western and Mountain Associations, particularly among Native American and Hispanic people.

     

    Day 8: Vickie Stewart, Maryland

    Vickie is the Baptist campus minister at Morgan State University, the fastest growing African-American college in Maryland. Her role is to share the gospel, establish a Baptist presence on campus, and encourage students to attend church, and share their faith with fellow students.
