NEW! March 20, 2009, UPDATE from Brenda:

"Good news from the uttermost end of the continent! We are here at the finish line of the Iditarod in Nome, Alaska, and have seen 132 decisions after four days of ministry to the Alaska Native community.

We have over 100 volunteers here in Nome, and hitting a myriad of ministry activities...from the local senior adults center, hospitality station (cocoa/coffee), kids’ club, chili feed, movie showing of “Fireproof”, Iditarod Trail airdrop distribution of “Fireproof” movies (which were given by Sherwood Baptist in Albany, Georgia), basketball tournament, community safety patrol at night, prison ministry, half-way house ministry, Brevig Mission ministry, and Koyuk village ministry.

You can view Iditarod Outreach videos featured in this year’s North American Missions Emphasis, where NAMB missionary Brenda Crim and volunteers are serving the race headquarters in every imaginable role—including headquarters set-up, manning the dog lots, reception desk, banquet servers, snowmobile transport to the Safety checkpoint, and assuming leadership roles at headquarters. In addition, they are reaching out in village ministries. One of the most exciting openings was an outreach effort in a rural village where Crim’s BCM assistant directors Spring Pungowiyi (a NAMB USC2’er) and Charlie Parnell, led an entourage of North Carolina Southern Baptist volunteers and Crossfire Ministries’ Randy Shepherd to Brevig Mission, AK, where over 60 decisions for Christ resulted. They also flew with bush pilot, Danny Davidson of Christian Pilots Association to Koyuk (one of the Iditarod Trail checkpoints) and hosted an evangelistic outreach with 20 decisions as well.

UPDATE: A Word From Brenda

Thank you for praying for me in Alaska during the Week of Prayer. With 42,000 Southern Baptist churches in the US standing with me, it feels like those commercials for the Verizon network, where throngs of people go everywhere I go, and they're behind me, praying and cheering. THAT IS AWESOME!

I am encouraged to launch new dreams, especially at this time! So here it goes...

  • Pray for the provision of a volunteer--an experienced administrative assistant who can release me to tend more to ministry needs outside the office.
  • Pray for the addition of young ministry interns and assistants who are capable of raising their own support.
  • Pray that I can stay consistent in my disciplines, fitness and stress management.
  • Pray for the provision of land and resources to start a Native Alaskan youth camp in NW Arctic Region.
  • Pray for the provision of land and resources to establish an outdoorsman ministry lodge on the Kenai Peninsula.
  • Pray that I grow in Christ in new depths and cling to only what is eternal.
  • Pray for the students of Alaska...that they are able to pioneer ways to reach our state effectively.
  • Pray that all believers in Alaska will be unified, setting aside differences, for the furthering of the Gospel.
  • Pray for the sifting of the believers, so that we do not stand in the way of the Gospel, and are fit to disciple others.
